Article 4 in a multiple-series story:
Soon after arriving in Alaska by ferry, Laurie and Molly briefly headed into the vast Yukon Territory before reentering Alaska and traveling to Anchorage.
Due to a few mechanical concerns, the bikes were left in the capable hands of a US Marine at The Motorcycle Shop in Anchorage, Alaska while the riders rested. Once the bikes were ready, the mother-daughter duo rode to Denali National Park to camp for a few days in the stunning terrain of snow-capped mountains and lush meadows!
Next, Laurie and Molly headed back into the awe-inspiring Yukon landscape by way of the Top of the World Highway! When asked about their experiences in that part of Canada, Laurie replied, “The Yukon Territory kicked our butts with tough roads, rain, hail, forest fires and 21 hours of daylight-but we love a challenge!”
After staying in Dawson City for two days and visiting Jack London’s cabin, the two began their trek south on the Alaska Highway toward British Columbia. During their stay in British Columbia, Molly suffered a fall on a gravel road, spraining her ankle and damaging her bike. Mark Tiedemann and his family provided the motorcyclists with some much needed support by towing the bikes to their nearby shop and opening their home to the travelers while Molly was on the mend!
As they continued down the Alaska Highway, Laurie and Molly camped in the truly magnificent Jasper National Park and Banff National Park, both located in Alberta, Canada. The Long Ride Home duo will soon be back in the United States, traveling the home stretch toward Warrenton, Virginia!!
