VMSI – Department of Education Benefit Support Services

The Department of Education, Washington, DC, awarded a contract to VMSI to provide benefit support services to assist in developing, maintaining, and updating employee benefits for electronic input. The Benefit Support Services that VMSI provides are essential to delivering critical agency wide benefit functions.

Some of the specific duties that VMSI staff provide includes:

  • Serve as a Receptionist for the Work/Life Branch of the Department’s Office of Management (OM)
  • Greet visitors and assist with questions regarding benefits and retirement
  • Answer routine phone calls regarding benefits and retirement
  • Process health, life, TSP and beneficiary forms
  • Review benefits paperwork for accuracy and completeness follow up to secure information, as required
  • Scan and index benefits forms and retirement applications for over a thousand employees
  • Copy and forward retirement packages to the Interior Business Center (IBC)
  • Assist federal Benefits Specialists with benefits and retirement related issues, including addressing grievances over plan changes, mailing certificates out for major career milestones, and performing new hire orientation

In addition to these tasks, our staff assist in organizing and managing fundraising and wellness events to include: the Keep America Active Challenge, collecting canned goods, and volunteering at food pantries for various non-profit organizations.
