This Memorial Day, employees of Veterans Management Services, Inc. (VMSI) reflect on the sacrifices of the men and women who gave their lives in military service. We owe more than our silent gratitude to those who proudly fought for our continued freedoms and bravely gave their all. As a country, we remember those we’ve lost through ceremonies, parades, awards and monuments, and while time may heal the wounds left by someone’s passing, we are never truly the same again.
No matter your plans for the upcoming weekend, we hope you will take some time to reflect and give thanks to those who gave their life in service to this country. From everyone in the VMSI family, we express our sincere gratitude and patriotism to the veteran community, families and friends, who have lost someone in the line of duty.
The image below shows VMSI COO, Ken Konkol’s grandfather, Edwin Konkol, carrying the first litter in this picture as the 110th Medical Battalion evacuates the wounded at Lutrebois, Belgium. The men in the photo were evacuating the wounded from a large stone barn (out of sight at the right side of the picture). This was the Infantry Company Command Post where they had been taken from the front line. They were being taken back a couple of hundred yards to the Infantry Battalion Aid Station where the ambulances would pick them up.
