October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month (BCAM), an annual health campaign organized by breast cancer charities to increase awareness and raise funds for research into its cause, prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and cure.
Awareness and early detection of breast cancer remains the key to long term survivability. According to the American Cancer Society, when breast cancer is detected early, and is in the localized stage, the 5-year relative survival rate is 99%. Early detection may include monthly breast self-exams, regular clinical breast exams, and mammograms
