The Washington Redskins Charitable Foundation and the Redskins Alumni Association hosted the third annual Redskins Charity Golf Classic, presented by Coca-Cola, on Monday, May 22nd at Army Navy Country Club in Arlington, Va. VMSI was proud to be a sponsor for this event and VMSI’s CEO Shane Moore participated in a foursome with Redskins Quarterback Colt McCoy!
The proceeds from the Redskins Charity Golf Classic are used to support the Redskins Charitable Foundation’s literacy efforts including the Redskins Read Program. In September, the Foundation will kick off the third year of this program in more than 150 schools representing 12 school districts and serving more than 25,000 children. The program is centered around the Redskins Read Playbook, a supplemental reading tool for 4th & 5th graders. It rewards both students and schools with a variety of incentives throughout the school year including giveaways, special events and the opportunity to attend Redskins home games, all to encourage participation and make reading fun!
The tournament was a scramble format and each foursome included an alum or current player – the notables included Ryan Kerrigan (LB), Will Compton (LB), Vernon Davis (TE) and Colt McCoy (QB). The golfers then convened back at the clubhouse for a barbecue dinner, where awards, a silent auction and a video presentation took place; VMSI’s Megan Shelton and Kylene Henson were in attendance later in the day for these events.
The silent auction featured over 50 unique items including autographed Redskins memorabilia, trips and experiences. An all-expense paid trip to the Super Bowl of Golf was one of the prizes for the winning team, which was led by former Redskin Clarence Vaughn.
